Evnie Treedle makes magical things and for the last few years she has been selling them in magical knickknacks shop, the Magpie Nest. 
 
 But everything changes when one day Evnie’s crafting abilities catch the attention of the nearby Reignclowd Palace. She is asked to become their resident spellsmith… the original spellsmith suddenly ill under mysterious circumstances. 
 
 Evnie is soon put to work making and mending magical objects. Yet, problems start to appear when she realises there’s much more at stake than friendship or romance; a dragon looms over the kingdom looking for a soul to devour, and it’s eyes are set on their princess.

Evnie Treedle spends her days making and selling magical items at The Magpie Nest - an enchanted feather that keeps off the rain and a mechanical owl who can read aloud are among her unique inventions. 
 
 
But everything changes when Evnie’s abilities catch the attention of the occupants of the nearby Reignclowd Palace. 
 
She is soon whisked away to become the resident spellsmith and the sweeping magical corridors, delicious feasts and the attentions of the charming oracle’s apprentice are a far cry from her previous life at her little shop. 
 
But she has been brought to the palace for a reason. A hungry dragon circles the castle, looking for a soul to devour: its sights set on the kingdom’s princess Hadriana. 
 
All hope falls to Evnie and her marvellous creations to rid the realm of this perilous creature. 
 
But can she magic up the victory needed and be the hero she never thought she could be?

Philippa Rice is an artist who works in a number of different mediums including comics, illustration, animation, model-making and crochet. Her other works include the collage-based webcomic My Cardboard Life and her stop-motion animated characters. She grew up in London and now lives in Nottingham with illustrator Luke Pearson.
