Books for 7 – 9-year-olds

Excite and ignite the imagination of readers aged from seven to nine with a variety of stories. To tickle the funny bone, introduce young people to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, or turn to Jacqueline Wilson’s Tracy Beaker books or R J Palacio’s Wonder for characters with humour and heart. In classics, Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory offer great heroes and unusual worlds, as does the iconic Worst Witch series. Contemporary novels like Tom Fletcher’s Space Band and Greg James and Chris Smith’s Super Ghost will have children reaching to write their own stories, but only after they’ve finished devouring their latest great read.
