Submissions

Sandycove is an imprint of the Penguin General division of Penguin Random House. We are delighted to consider emailed manuscripts and proposals for fiction and non-fiction books that might fit on our publishing list.

Preparing your submission:

If you already have a completed manuscript, please do not send a query email about submitting it. Just submit following the guidelines here.

In assembling your submission please include the following:

  • a cover letter – this should include a brief description of your book (no more than a couple of sentences) and a short relevant note about yourself (i.e. your writing background, if any; or, for non-fiction material, why you are writing about this topic);
  • a summary for non-fiction books or a plot synopsis for fiction – no more than 500 words for either;
  • the full work, if complete; for non-fiction, this should be a detailed outline of the proposed book if it is not yet written; please do not send the main work as separate chapters – combine it into a single document, preferably in Word (not formatted as a PDF).

Ideally we would prefer to receive all three elements – cover letter, summary/synopsis and manuscript/outline – in a single Word document.

Please do not provide a link for us to download your material from a file sharing site. If your file is too large to send by attachment remove the visual material that is taking up space and simply send the written content, indicating the images that can be provided.

Sending your submission:

Please send your material to submissions@penguinrandomhouse.ie.

In the subject line of your email please include:

  • your name
  • the title of your work
  • whether it is fiction or non-fiction
  • the initials of the editor you would like to look at your material if you have a preference (check out details of our editors and what they publish above).

So your subject line might read like this: Stephen Green - The Chimneys (F) – BB.

In the body of your email paste in the information you have provided in your cover letter (we ask you to provide this twice for administrative reasons).

On sending your submission, you will receive an automated email acknowledging receipt.

Please note that we do not publish in the following categories:

  • Children’s Fiction and Non-Fiction (including Picture Books)
  • Young Adult Fiction
  • Poetry
  • Science Fiction
  • Fantasy Fiction

Regrettably, due to the volume of material we are sent, we have to delete submissions in these categories on receipt. Therefore, apart from our automated acknowledgments email, you will not get a response.

Response time:

Unless you submit in one of the categories in which we do not publish, an editor will read your submission as soon as possible. Please allow at least three months for a response; we try to read submissions promptly but due to the volume of submissions we receive, we cannot say how long it will take. We are unable to give you information about the progress of your submission by phone or email, nor is it possible to give editorial feedback at submission stage.

We are enthusiastic about reading submissions from potential authors. We thank you for adhering to our submission guidelines which are intended to assist you in making a considered submission and us in dealing with it as quickly and efficiently as possible.
