I’m interested in bold fiction built on brilliant expression, thought-expanding theme, or daring use of form. I’m moved by compulsive narratives streaked with hot fervour or icy thought, and novels from around the world concerned with life’s tragedy and beauty and humour. At heart, I’m looking for that heady sort of book that thrills you in its newness and difference, but allows you still to look your less bookish friends in the eye when you recommend it.

I work with Isabel Wall on some of the authors on her list as well as looking after Viking’s fiction backlist, including the Penguin Essential and Penguin European Writers series, and am always on the look-out for forgotten classics.
