Every year, we set the intention to read more classics – and not just for the thrill of dropping Dostoevsky into casual conversation. Classics are almost guaranteed to be worthwhile reads because they’ve stood the test of time. As Italian writer Italo Calvino once wrote: “A classic is a book which has never exhausted all it has to say to its reader.”

But where should you begin? We always find it helpful to reflect on what we have already read before we decide what to read next. That’s why we’ve taken our list of 100 must-read classics (as chosen by our readers) and transformed it into a checklist.
