Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to hear from one of the first activists to sound the alarm about climate change in the 1980s, Bill McKibben at this free virtual event to celebrate the new Penguin Classics environmental series, Green Ideas.

Bill is considered one of the world’s most visible and effective environmental activists, his The End of Nature (1989) is considered the first book for a general audience about climate change. He is one of twenty biologists, conservationists, philosophers, zoologists, farmers, ecologists and visionary campaigners included in the Green Ideas Series.

Bill will be joined climate justice and environmental activists Mikaela Loach and Fatima Ibrahim as they discuss the relationship between climate justice and social justice and how this is explored in the Green Ideas series.

The event will be moderated by 27 year-old Alice Aedy, co-founder of Earthrise, documentary photographer, film-maker and activist, whose work focuses on forced migration, environmental issues and women’s stories.

Mikaela Loach is a climate justice activist, co-host of The Yikes Podcast, writer and 5th year medical student based in Edinburgh. She is one of three claimants taking the UK government to court to challenge the Oil & Gas Association's policy in the North Sea and the subsidies and tax breaks the industry is given by the UK government. Her organizing work and Instagram focuses on highlighting the harm caused by the fossil fuel industry, and the intersections of the climate crisis with oppressive systems such as white supremacy and migrant injustices. Fatima is the co-founder and director of Green New Deal UK, a youth movement fighting for a transformation of the economy to stop the climate crisis and build a world in which we can thrive. She's a climate activist and social justice campaigner. Much of her work has been spent campaigning and building solidarity with international movements. She has worked for global NGO Avaaz, EU citizens movement WeMove.eu and was one of the lead organisers of the People’s Climate March.
