Win 100 free books for your secondary school

In partnership with TES, we’re giving secondary schools across the UK the chance to apply for a free Lit in Colour book donation for their library, made up of 100 different Penguin books by Black, Asian and minority ethnic authors.

The donation includes fiction, non-fiction and poetry.

In addition to the 100 books for the school library, each school will also receive a class set (30 copies) of Empireland by Sathnam Sanghera, an interactive activity pack based on the book, and 5 free audiobook downloads.

Who's eligible to apply?

  • Any state secondary school, alternative education setting or sixth form college in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland
  • Note that fee-paying schools are not eligible to apply

How will we decide which schools receive the books?

  • We’ll be donating books to 500 different schools in total
  • To apply we’ll ask you to tell us, in just a couple of sentences, why and how you think your school would benefit from receiving this donation
  • Depending on how many applications we receive, we’ll use this information to determine which schools should be prioritised and, if necessary, we will make a selection at random
  • If succesful, your books will be delivered in October.

Click here to apply by completing a short application form before midnight on Friday 30 July 2021. You can read the full terms & conditions of entry here.

What if you are a primary school?

We have an award-winning partnership with the National Literacy Trust, Puffin World of Stories, which supports primary schools to develop an inclusive culture of reading for pleasure through bespoke training and free books. Click here to find out more including how to register your interest in being part of the programme in the future.
